Remove Dual Wielding From Darkscape

First of all, this is absolutely not a troll suggestion. Hopefully by reading my post, I will be able to convince you that removing dual wielding is absolutely in the best interest of this game.

I’m sure most of us can agree that many mistakes were made with the release of the EoC, even if you are in fact a fan of EoC. One of the biggest being dual wielding. Whilst dual wielding is a fairly cool addition to the game, it also to an extent, ruined a LOT of content.

At this point, you probably think I’m just another EoC hater… Well I’m not. The release of dual wielding can be directly linked to the death of Pking, as well as the complete destruction of a VAST amount of items, and the economy that went with them. Now remember, I’m talking PURELY about dual wielding here, and not the new combat mechanics in the EoC. I’m not going to go into detail on how dual wielding can be directly linked as I’m sure you already know, but if not, please do ask and I’ll happily respond.

Ok, so maybe if Jagex could take back their decision to introduce dual wielding, they would… Well, now they can. Because Darkscape is locked to Legacy combat only, that means that there are no abilities, which means there is no reason for dual wielding to exist and removing it wouldn’t negatively impact combat at all.

There are however, many reasons for dual wielding to NOT exist. Here they are:

Dagger, Claws, Hatchet, Mace, Sword, Longsword, Scimitar, Spear, Hasta, Warhammer, Battleaxe, 2-handed Sword, Halberd, Pickaxe

Above you will find a list of common weapons you can smith within Darkscape. There is actually quite a nice selection. Now pretend for a second you have just gained 40 attack, you are a fairly new player, and are looking to upgrade your weaponry to adamant. Which of these weapons will you use? The answer is simple, you will use any of the 2 handed weapons (shown in orange). Yes, that’s right, your selection of 14 weapons has just decreased to 4 (a staggeringly low 28%)… (Similar observations can be made for mage and range)

Why? Well there’s a few reasons.

The first reason is simple, in a game designed for PvP, everybody will be looking to risk as little as possible. This means that 2 handed weapons will be king for anyone looking to take part in PvP, which is kind of the whole point of the game…

The second is that the difficulty to acquire basic offhand weapons removes them as an option even for people who have no intention of skulling. It currently requires 70+ Smithing to smith adamant, and off hand weapons generally aren’t dropped by monsters and aren’t sold in shops. They literally couldn’t be any more annoying to obtain as a low level, which is essentially what they are aimed at (in the case of addy).

Removing dual wielding from the game will revitalise all weapons in the game. I haven’t actually calculated any numbers, but it wouldn’t surprise me if around 70% of the current viable weapons were completely redundant due to the reasons stated above.

A second reason for removing Dual wielding is SHIELDS (yes, shields, remember those?!). When was the last time you used a shield aside from during a boss battle when a certain ability was required? If you are most people, the answer to that question was probably never (unless you were using a shield to look cool while standing around). So yeah, even more revitalised items within the game.

So, my suggestion is simple, Remove dual wielding from the game, and increase the offensive stats of any weapons that used to be dual wield. Essentially, the same way single hand wield works in Oldschool Runescape. A stat-based system would replace the current Tier based system. This change would ensure that each weapon has something to offer and would help give use to all the currently redundant items.

It may sound like a huge ask, and it is... but it will be worth it in the long run.

Dont wait too long to do this though, the sooner it is done, the less of an impact it will have on people during the transition. This is a perfect opportunity to right one of the wrong due to EoC while the game is still fresh off the boat.

That’s all I have to say. Hopefully I have given you guys enough reasons to agree with my suggestion. Thanks for reading.

Some DarkScape Ideas for improvement

So i was a old school runescape veteran, have come back after about 8 years just to play darkscape, and honestly i absolutely love the game, so the list of all positives would be way to long so instead i'm just going to share some thoughts on how me and a few other people i play with feel and how it's been for the past 2 weeks playing a tonne.

My problems with Darkscape

Today I died in Karamja, I had the option to not attack players even if I miss click checked off but I think entering doors while other people are standing there still has an affect, I was skulled on karamja and got owned while trying to work my way down to the bank.

combat: my DarkScape feedback and ideas

defense skill: make the defense skill more useful, even when not wearing any defensive equipment. its annoying when you have high defense, but unable to block anything

The reason why Legacy is an abomination is because it is built within the EoC system

Darkscape was build on the idea of forcing players to Travel to different zones in the world to stimulate some sort of caravan system in the game. The intention was good but it completely failed in all aspects.

Gear on Rs3 has stats that are way to high and it makes everything a complete joke

Gear on Rs3 has stats that are way to high and it makes everything a complete joke.. but on darkscape the weapons are complete jokes and the monsters are still weak. its a problem.

This post is a suggestion for the darkscape devs

I read that the DS developers are trying to figure out a way to make the combat triangle less of a "rock-paper-scissors" game. Here's my thoughts on how to tackle that: from the perspective of armor
